The Culture of Cornhole

by contoss / Thursday, 21 May 2015 / Published in Latest News

To some, the game of cornhole might sound a little strange – Players throwing cloth bags filled with corn at a hole in a wooden platform? The Culture of Cornhole

But fans of the game know it’s a great way to have fun and compete essentially anywhere. With its increasing popularity, cornhole tournaments are becoming more common. Earlier this year, competitors braved the cold temperatures to take part in a tournament benefiting Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida.

Although no one is quite sure where the game originated, the American Cornhole Association speculates it was first played in 14th century Germany. In America, it was popular in Ohio for decades, where it started showing up at tailgating parties for the Cincinnati Bengals. From there, it slowly migrated to other states. Cornhole is now famously known for its contribution to tailgating parties.
Because of its close association with sports, it is common for cornhole boards and bags to be customized with sport team logos or mascots.

But you don’t need to be a football fan to enjoy the game – People of all ages and abilities can play. The bags are light and easy to toss, and the rules are fairly straightforward and easy to understand. You don’t need to go to a football game to play, either – Cornhole is now a staple for backyard parties, barbeques, weddings, and family reunions. Often, it’s taken inside as a great activity for kids when the weather doesn’t permit for outdoor learning. Meanwhile, cornhole has replaced traditional games in bars and pubs, such as darts. With the right cornhole bags, you can even turn it into a drinking game!

No matter your age or skill level, cornhole is the perfect game to play anywhere with friends and family. At Customcorntoss.com, we have all the items you’ll need to bring Cornhole to your next event!
